Currently under construction in Somerset, UK – Hinkley Point C is one of the largest construction projects in Europe and will play a critical role in the UK’s future energy strategy. The project has been one of our key clients since 2019. The project, still has a lifetime Capex of £25bn – £26bn.

As part of our role delivering the Transformation of Hinkley Point C’s (HPC) Supply Chain function we were commissioned to undertake an independent ‘Experience Research Project’ to help the broader HPC Executive to understand whether the Supply Chain it has in place think the project is fit for the final stages of construction.

We lead the independent research interviewing the Executive and Supply Chain leadership to understand key themes and lines to take in our interview process.

We then coordinated interviewing 25 suppliers (c.5% of Tier 1 Suppliers) from a mix of the Supply Chain. For each Supplier we interviewed their Executive Leadership, as well as Commercial and Operational roles interfacing with HPC. We ran 75 hours of interviews over one month.

The outcome was a research report titled ‘Win-Win: How we collaborate to make HPC a success’ and provided a summary of the key themes (Relationships, Capability, Project Culture and Implementation), a summary of positives, potential impacts for Sizewell C to consider, recommendations for improvements and next steps.

The report was presented to the Supply Chain function, and the Executive at HPC to help provide an understanding of supplier experience.
